The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a national-level engineering entrance exam for admission to engineering colleges like IITs, NITs, and IIITs, consisting of two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The IIT JEE is a national-level entrance exam for engineering and architecture courses in India, consisting of two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is a preliminary exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutions, and is a prerequisite for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is the second and final stage, conducted by the IITs for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology.
JEE Main
- Purpose: Serves as an eligibility test for JEE Advanced and a qualifier for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
- Conducting Body: National Testing Agency (NTA).
- Frequency: Generally conducted twice a year (e.g., January and April).
- Eligibility:
- For B.E./B.Tech: Must have passed 12th grade with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a Technical Vocational subject.
- For B.Arch: Must have passed 12th grade with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- For B.Planning: Must have passed 12th grade with Mathematics.
- Note: A minimum of 75% in 12th grade is required for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs (or the top 20 percentile for SC/ST candidates).
- For B.E./B.Tech: Must have passed 12th grade with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a Technical Vocational subject.
JEE Advanced
- Purpose: Final stage for admission to the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
- Conducting Body: The IITs, on a rotational basis.
- Eligibility: Candidates must qualify for JEE Main and be in the top ranks (e.g., top 2.5 lakh rank holders) to be eligible to appear.
